York Ogunquit Democratic Committee Meeting

February 24, 2024

Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Dawn Hackett at 11:10 a.m.  She asked attendees to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Dawn asked if anyone had concerns about the next election. Absentee ballot requests have been low for the March 5 primary. Phyllis Giordano brought up the subject of ageism as the last acceptable prejudice. She stated that she did not feel Democrats were pushing back hard enough on this issue when the question of the President’s age is discussed. She also said that President Biden still is not receiving adequate credit for the good economy.

Another attendee stated that in year 4 of the Trump administration, one  million people died of COVID, yet that fact is rarely discussed in the media.

Harry Mussman reported that the YODC bank account currently has a balance of just over $1,700. He reminded the committee that we will need to raise $3,000 to $5,000 to cover the rent on a Seacoast Dems office for the upcoming campaign season.

Dawn did a presentation about the online auction fundraiser. She distributed handouts that gave instructions for securing and documenting donations. Dawn emphasized that proper documentation is necessary for Ethics Committee reporting. Currently there are 36 items donated and Dawn gave an overview of the auction website with examples of some of the available items. She asked for ideas that would generate more donations.

Harry reminded everyone that the donation box was available for cash or check donations.

The next meeting was originally scheduled for March 23, but that is the date of the Climate Action Fair. Scott Stevens moved to cancel the March meeting and Carol Libby seconded.

The meeting adjourned at 11:33 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Phyllis Giordano
